I shrug and go find Quicktime Alternative, the open source QT player, DL it, and start to install - but it, too, wants me to uninstall QT Pro 6.5 before installing QTA (which would give me access to mp4s). Best program ever say more than a couple. Oddly, even though it's the User Review for Quicktime Pro for Windows, there are a number of people talking about it on their Macs. If they're edited, I'd hate to see what they took out.) (Good on Apple for not apparently not editing them. A level of vitriol seldom seen in user reviews. That, unfortunately, does not look like a good idea, based on buyer reviews in the Apple store site.

So I call Apple on the phone and - nope - if I want Quicktime 7, I either have to uninstall QT Pro 6.5 and get the free, very limited version, or pay full price (apparently up from $30 to $32) for my 'uptdate.' I talk to one of my 3DW Mac pals and he says, I'm sure it's a "lifetime license" and I tell him that's what I thought.

ALthough I notice that they keep saying "insert your Quicktime Pro 7 registration key." I go to the website but I can't get an answer. but I get a message pop up.Įssentially it says I have a "previous version" of Quicktime Pro and I have to buy a new license. I figure I'll DL it and insert my Lifetime License ID number. So I'm toodling around the net and I see something, an advert or something, that says Quicktime 7. People send me "mp4" video or audio clips and - despite the fact that I have QuickTime Pro, and its updater says it's "up to date" and all available codecs are installed - it refused to recognize mp4s.
